International Online Radio Awards announced

Online streaming service Mixcloud and the International Radio Festival (IRF) have launched their first annual Online Radio Awards.

Along with global Best Station, the Best Asia-Pacific Station will also be chosen along with other regional winners.

Best Shows will be chosen across ten categories including Dance, Electronica, Funk & Soul, Hip Hop, Indie/ Alternative, Jazz, World Music, Mixed Show, Pop and Talk.

Entries close on July 29, a shortlist will be announced on August 1 and winners will be declared on 12 August.

Winners will also be flown to, and have their show aired at the International Radio Festival in Zurich from September 3 to 6.

They will be chosen through a combination of public and industry panel votes.

The line-up of judges includes Tony Prince, known for his programmes on Radio Caroline and Radio Luxembourg in the 1960s and 1970s.

Mixcloud Co-founder Nikhil Shah told Radio Today UK: “Online radio is thriving. It’s one of the most diverse and democratic forms of media in the world. We look forward to celebrating the best in class in our inaugural Online Radio Awards.”

Tony Prince said: “Radio has come a long way since my days broadcasting from the sea.”
