Radio Mirchi rebrands Chennai morning show

India’s Radio Mirchi 98.3FM recently got popular Tamil film actor, TV anchor, stand-up comedian and singer Sivakarthikeyan to launch its new breakfast show ‘Marina Melodies’ in Chennai.

The show, named after a popular Tamil movie, airs weekdays 7 am to 11 am.

It will be hosted by popular RJ Ajai, who has been with the station for more than a decade.

RJ Ajai describes himself as ‘just a radio jockey and nothing else’ and is a big fan of the Academy Award winning Indian musician A.R. Rahman, who also hails from Chennai.

In a departure from the channel’s usual upbeat music, ‘Marina Melodies’ will feature melodious contemporary Tamil film music, a genre for which the listeners have shown a preference.

Station Director Manoj Mathan said: “True to the name Marina Melodies will capture the breezy moods of morning in the show designed to appeal to the modern-day radio lover”.

Talking about the show, RJ Ajai who has been hosting Mirchi’s breakfast show Hello Chennai for more than 7 years says, “It’s afantastic change, true to the city’s unique personality of being melodiously HOT! I always took pride in my show being a sunshine one, now I can proudly look forward to a rainbow along with the sunshine”.

Sivakarthikeyan who launched the show with great fanfare in the Mirchi Studio says, “Melody songs are a great way to begin our mornings and to me who has always had an emotional connect with Ajai’s show in Radio Mirchi, it’s a double gift.”
