Symphony FM holds young talents gala night

MediaCorp Radio’s classical music station Symphony 92.4FM organised the third Young Talents Project 2014 Gala Concert last Friday in partnership with China’s Soochow University School of Music.

8-year old Kaelyn Soh won the competition that recognises and honours classical music prodigies aged 15 and below.

14-year old Sapphire Ho was the winner of the Symphony 92.4FM Prize and 8-year old Dan Yuet Ian was the Audience Choice winner.

Young Talents Project 2014 received over 150 entries this year and after stringent preliminary rounds, the top 10 finalists performed at the gala at the MediaCorp TV theatre.

The judging panel featured Professor Siow Lee-Chin of Soochow University School of Music, Ms Pearl Samuel, Deputy Director for Sector Development of National Arts Council and Professor Wei Yung-Chiao of Louisiana State University School of Music.

Prizes included an all-expense paid trip to Vienna, Austria for music masterclasses and an additional $2000 cash prize.

Ms Wang Ya-Hui, Vice-President for Symphony 92.4FM said:  “Showcasing China’s young talents allows us to further enhance the appreciation of classical music in the region and to strengthen the friendship between Singapore and her regional countries.”

“It is so important to have these opportunities for emerging musicians to learn and experience the joy of making friends through music making,” said Professor Siow Lee-Chin, renowned violinist in Singapore and Professor of Violin, Soochow University School of Music.
