‘Brave’ Oye! FM listeners inspire Bollywood actress

India’s Oye! 104.8 FM recently got Bollywood actress Rani Mukerji to honour brave women from Delhi through its initiative – ‘Dilli Ki  Mardaani’ (Brave Women of Delhi).

Mukerji, who felicitated the winners and heard their inspiring stories at a fully packed event, is the lead star of the new Bollywood film ‘Mardaani’ (Brave).

She said she was inspired by their stories and encouraged women to learn martial arts and deal with issues of harassment with boldness.

As part of the activity Oye! 104.8 FM had invited listeners to nominate someone who they thought deserved to be called a ‘Mardaani’, for taking a stand against injustice.

The station received many calls and texts over a week and 20 winners were selected by Mukerji herself.

Among the winners was Anju Sharma who stood up alone against some local goons, filing a police report against them and, ensuring that they apologised in front of the whole neighbourhood.

Another winner, lawyer Luvjeet Bhatia fought a case against local hooligans for over two years with the verdict finally heading in her favour.

The station says the initiative helped raise the spirit of women empowerment and set an inspiration to fight against social evils.
