Radio jocks shouldn’t mock politicians – Indian MP

An Indian MP has called for new rules preventing radio djs from mocking the country’s leaders.

Jaya Bachchan told parliament that spoofs on politicians had become too much of a regular feature on many radio stations.

She said: “The jockeys should ensure their language and content is not objectionable. Those of us who are sitting inside the house should be respected. This mimicking and making fun of leaders is not correct”

Bachchan is a veteran film actress-turned-politician and the wife of bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan.

Responding to her, Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar said that the government will look into the matter.

He said these were not in “good sense” pointing out that there was an electronic media monitoring centre for such issues.
