AIR lauds staff who helped restore Kashmir services

India’s public broadcaster All India Radio (AIR) has praised its Radio Kashmir staff for working tirelessly to connect people affected by massive floods in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

The programming, engineering and other staff of the station launched efforts on a war footing to resume broadcast from a makeshift studio after their premises were submerged by the deluge.

Radio Kashmir returned on 102.6 FM from Shankaracharya Hills in the state capital Srinagar followed by medium wave services on 1116 Khz from a temporary studio at Narbal.

Sunita Sahay, Media Interlocutor of Prasar Bharati – the parent body of AIR, lauded its Kashmir staff for rising to the occasion and serving people in their hour of need, as expected of a public broadcaster.

The catastrophe severely affected the connectivity in the region and AIR broadcasts have acted as a source for support of rescue, relief and rehabilitation activities.

Besides airing vital information and helpline numbers, it is also airing special programmes to bring solace to flood victims.
