ABU recruits Prasar Bharati CEO

The CEO of India’s public broadcaster Prasar Bharati, Jawhar Sircar, was elected Vice President (VP) of Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) in Macau on Tuesday, reports Jagran Josh.

Sircar, who was elected unopposed, supervises All India Radio (AIR) and Doordarshan (DD) television.

He is at the rank of Secretary to the Government of India and previously worked at the Ministry of Culture where he reported directly to the Prime Minister.

Sircar was awarded a silver medal for extraordinary service by the Government of India and also received the first ever British Museum Award for piloting museum reforms.

India is a founder member of ABU – the third largest broadcasting union in the world with 264 members in 61 countries which reach a potential audience of 3.5 billion people.
