Radio highlights North Korea rights issues

Radio station officials from Japan, South Korea and the United States will meet next month to discuss North Korea’s human rights record, reports Global Post.

The session will be held in Tokyo on December 13, during the North Korean human rights abuses awareness week for Japan.

It is the first time that such a meeting is being hosted by the Japanese government.

Japan’s Furusato no Kaze and Voice of America are among the participating stations.

Both stations regularly broadcast shortwave programs and send messages to North Korea.

At a press conference, Eriko Yamatani, state minister in charge of the issue of North Korea’s past abductions of Japanese nationals, said: “We expect to send a strong message to North Korea through coordination with the international community.”
